In the middle of the desert of North West Africa emerged Egypt, one of history's most splendid civilisations, whose cultural acheivments left us with architectural monuments which today remain as the most recognisable symbols of the way life once was on the banks of the Nile.
Greek culture developed on the Mediterranean Coast, from the Aegean Sea to its furthest colonies, such as Ampurias, on the Iberia Peninsular. Many facets of our own culture trace their roots back to the Greeks, over two thousand years ago.
The Romans inherited Greek culture and mixed it with their own, giving rise to the so-called Greco-Roman culture. Among that heritage, we might point to the alphabet, the Julian calender, Latin, Law, Republican Institutions, as well as great architectural landmarks, which are still the object of study and admiration.
Ancient Greek writers told stories of a remote "Age of Heroes", where Gods and Mortals took part in the most exciting adventures and events. We know nothing exact about them until 19th Century archaeologists began discovering the sites and cities which the ancient authors spoke of with so much passion.
